Nexus is proud to announce that we will be hosting a one-day conference on New Nordic Security Dynamics on 23 January 2016 in Reykjavík, Iceland. The conference aims to bring together academics and specialists from throughout the Nordic region and beyond, to discuss increased Nordic collaboration on security and defence.

If you are interested in taking part, please take a look at the conference page and submit an abstract to the board by email (stjorn [at] nexusrov.org) by 8 November.

Í hádeginu munum við gera heiðarlega tilraun til þess að streyma hádegisfund Nexus með Alyson Bailes á Youtube. Þar sem þetta er okkar fyrsta tilraun á svona vettvangi er þetta gert með fyrirvara um að mistök geta gerst…! En ef allt gengur eftir áætlun verður upptakan svo vistuð á YouTube síðu Nexus og áhugasamir geta skoðað fyrirlesturinn seinna.

Today we will attempt to live stream our public lecture with Alyson Bailes on Youtube. Since this is our first attempt at a stream like this, we hope that you will take that into consideration in case of mistakes…! But if everything goes according to the plan, the recording will be saved on our YouTube page and you can watch the lecture at your convenience.

Arctic security: Policy analysis of the circumpolar states

Since the end of the Cold War the security scenario in the Arctic region has changed significantly. Academics have written about new dimensions of security states must now take into consideration. The purpose of this article is to compare the declared policies of the eight member states of the Arctic Council – Canada, Denmark/Greenland, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States – focusing on sovereignty, security and defense. The purpose is to establish: a) whether the new security scenario is reflected in these states’ official policy documents, and b) whether there is a difference between the policies of the five coastal states – Canada, Denmark/Greenland, Norway, Russia and the USA – and the other three circumpolar states.
